Baby Gastronome 2022
Have you noticed a lot of babies around during these past two years? At work, in public spaces, at parties, or on social media? As we saw the rise of “pandemic babies,” we started to think: how would a gastronome raise a child? The first thing we have realized is that parenting isn’t easy with or without a pandemic going on. And raising a baby gastronome is even more complex. But we’re here to give you a hand!
The first step? Recognizing that you’re not just feeding your kids—you’re teaching about the world around them, giving the tools to explore the food world with confidence and knowledge. No worries, it won’t be all work and no play! You can also guide your kids with entertaining but educational tasks to explain how seeds are planted or simply why they can’t have strawberries on a November afternoon. And when your children are ready to eat solid foods, you’ve got all kinds of exciting activities: introducing them to new tastes, flavors, textures, and experiences or starting to teach them about where our food comes from. That’s what makes raising a baby gastronome so different from other parenting journeys: it’s not only about ensuring your kids eat their vegetables or get enough calcium; it’s about allowing them to enjoy themselves while they learn about food—and then sharing those experiences with them.
In this issue, we reached out to some gastro-parents, asking to share their experiences and thoughts about raising a child, not gabbing about standard parent talk but instead focusing on how they make their kids aware of the food they eat. So get ready because you will find freaky articles with unbelievable information or anthropological aspects with an international view —from activities to stories and even a fable!
We hope you’ll enjoy not only reading but also doing all of these activities with your tiny humans.
